The Holy Bible

The Holy Bible is our instruction manual given to us by our creator. In this post I discuss multiple formats and offer recommendations for which versions to read.

What is the Holy Bible?

Simply put, the Bible is our instruction manual given to us by our creator. It not only shows us how to live life better but also shows us how much God loves each and every one of us (John 3:16 for example).

It is a living word that meets us where we are and shows us that we are all loved.

I’m not here to debate the origins of the Bible with you. I am here to share that if you take time to read and understand what it is sharing with you it will change you and enable you to grasp the understanding of God’s love for you… yes, YOU!

I would encourage everyone to read the Bible, especially if you attend a local church regularly. Do not take your pastor’s word for it, read it for yourself! It is, after all, your personal relationship with God we are talking about.

My Top 2 Bibles to Read:

Like with most things, there is meaning lost in translation. The original text was written in Hebrew and Greek and then translated into our English language. Revelations warns

1. Amplified (AMP)

The AMP version is my go to, everyday version that I like to read. I like it because it provides the Hebrew or Greek definitions for many of the words inline. If you read it, you will notice the [ … ] which provides more context to understand what the message actually is.

2. New King James Version (NKJV)

I like the NKJV because it is much easier to understand than the KJV I grew up with. The NKJV is a more modern translation that remains faithful to the original Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic texts.

A combination of 130 respected Bible scholars, church leaders, and lay Christians worked for seven years to create this easy to read version of the Bible.

My Top 2 Bible Apps:

I have been using this app on my iPhone since February 2011 (not the same phone…) and it has become my primary go-to for reading and studying God’s word.

Do you use the Bible app? If you do, friend me and let’s do a reading plan together.

The app offers several features that I truly enjoy and rely on. Some of my favorite features include:

Multiple Versions

Typically, I read and study from the AMP version, but it is extremely handy to be able to quickly and easily switch to a different translation for comparison.

Color Coded Highlighting

Highlighting a verse, or group of verses is as easy as touching the versos and choosing a color. This makes returning to that particular verse easy.

Bookmarks and Notes

I like this feature a lot! Simply add a note as your reading and easily come back to it in the future.

Reading Plans (solo or with friends)

I really love the social ability to read Bible plans together and share our thoughts with each other. If I want to read a plan by myself, I can do that to!

Create Verse Images (& Share them)

It is very easy to create a verse image and share to your social media account or to an individual.

Verse of the Day

Get the VOD sent to your email, text, or see it when you open the app. This is a great way to get the Good Word in you everyday of the week!

The app offers several other awesome features such as prayer requests, tracking your Bible activity, badges for time in God’s word, videos, and a community board to see what your friends are reading.

If you don’t currently use the app, I encourage you to download it (links below) and start reading. It’s great to have while sitting in a waiting room, airport, bus stop, small group, church, or anywhere for that matter!

Once you have the app and your account setup, go to ‘add friends’ and search for my name.
